One is field ready with fiberglass fertilizer hoppers, and the other planter is missing 1 fertilizer hopper and the fertilizer openers. Posted November 13, 2011. I just bought an old IH 56 two row planter which came with a few plates and has the manual with it. I looked at 2 of last year's seed bags to see what plates I should have on hand for next year. From buckets to showroom quality! I bought an old Ford 9N last October that was more than a labor of love - although the hood, engine and transmission compartments were laid out, the rest was in 5 gallon oil buckets! I knew this would be the perfect project for my son and I. I bought a service and parts manual from SSB and that Ford became a 6 month learning project for us. We overhauled the engine, reworked the brakes, rewired the electrical system, fixed the cooling system and found original paint and decals, with parts from SSB. It might have been faster to buy a ready-built tractor, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything!

Does anyone know the sprocket settings on an IH56 6 row planter for soybeans. Will be planting on 30' rows and aiming for 130,000 population...

Also, what plate should I use? The beans are 2,920 per pound.

I have a book on it, just can't find it today for some reason...

Are you planting a 'bushy' bean? That 130k seems kind of light, maybe 45#/acre, we typically plant 55-70# no matter the seed size. Keeps the pods off the ground and shades in faster.

Yes, it is. The bag shows planting 130,000 population on 30' rows.

I know on my soil if I went with there recomedations on planter settings I would not have a crop, always way too lite. Where they would recemond 45# I needed to plant at 66# or they could not push thru the crust even with the rotary hoe run over twice.
